The
Martha Goes Wireless
1832 Meets 2004
Abingdon, VA – The Martha Washington Inn, A Camberley Hotel, now offers complimentary High Speed Wireless Internet Access to all guests and visitors for use in guest rooms, in meeting rooms, in Martha’s Gourmet Market, and in the hotel’s state-of-the-art guest business center. This connectivity enables users to access e-mail, download files and surf the net from any location in the hotel, whether they are in their guest room, a meeting, Martha’s Gourmet Market, the lobby, or even the elevator!
Guests and visitors to the hotel have no need to connect any wires or cables to access their e-mail or the Internet. Their laptops will be connected to the Internet at high-speed literally everywhere in the hotel with no cords or plugs required. Best of all, the convenience of this wireless mobility does not slow the Internet connection speed. In fact, the wireless network is actually fifty times faster than a standard dial-up modem from a laptop computer.
Access to The Martha’s wireless network is simple. All laptops can pick up wireless signals through either built-in or added-on network components. In fact, most major computer manufacturers, such as Compaq, IBM, and Dell, offer laptop computers with built-in wireless capability.
If, however, a guest’s computer does not have built-in wireless capability, most laptops can easily become wireless accessible by installing a wireless network card and loading the appropriate software. If guests do not have their own wireless card, they can simply borrow one from the hotel’s front desk at no charge.
Christopher Lowe, general manager of the hotel, said, “We feel that it is important for The Martha to offer the latest in technology to our guests and patrons, while still maintaining the elegance and charm of this historic inn.”
The Martha now joins the ranks of only a handful of hotels in the
country offering this wireless technology, one of which is The
Martha’s sister-property, The Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. By
offering this wireless service at no cost to guests, meeting
participants and patrons of Martha’s Gourmet Market, The Martha is
unique and has now set the bar for high-tech guest service.
The Martha Washington Inn is nestled in the Blue Ridge Highlands of
Southwest Virginia. Originally built in 1832 as a private mansion,
this historic inn provides an elegant change of pace for guests and is
conveniently located in an historic neighborhood, complete with brick
walks and turn-of-the-century homes. Antique-filled guestrooms and
public spaces, fine and casual dining, intimate meeting space, and
spacious ballroom facilities all make The Martha Washington Inn a
favorite destination for both business and leisure travelers. For
